Poem - I Knew You'd Be Up

It’s 3am

I know You knew I’d be up

Mind spinning

Thoughts swirling

Thank You Father God for being the

Gentleman that You are and letting me just be

I know You knew I’d be up

Wondering

But not worrying

You know me so well

I know You knew I’d be up

Wanting to talk to You

Wanting to thank You

Wanting to praise You

I know You knew I’d be up

Needing You

Needing to know

Wanting to know

But not asking why

I know You knew I’d be up

Sitting on the edge of my bed

Under the glow of darkness

Within my room that wasn’t pitch black

A silent cry

A teardrop falling

You whispered

“Lift your head. Look up.”

You wanted me to see the word

The word I pinned to my faith board

in January

The word You gave to me for the new year

Through watery eyes

I saw it

I saw it and I smiled

I knew You knew I’d be up

I knew You knew I needed to not be

I laid back down

Cradled my head on my soft satin pillow

Pulled the covers up over me

Closed my eyes

I lay down both in peace and sleep

You knew
